Privacy Policy
DnsQuery is a local DNS diagnostic tool. We do not collect any personal information.
Data Collection
We do not collect any data. DnsQuery has no servers, no analytics, no telemetry, and no tracking. Nothing you do in the app is ever sent to us.
The only exception is Apple's own telemetry. When you download DnsQuery from the App Store or TestFlight, Apple may collect crash reports and usage statistics according to your device settings and Apple's privacy policy. We can access aggregated crash reports through App Store Connect to help fix bugs, but this data is collected and managed by Apple, not by us.
Network Connections
DnsQuery connects only to servers the user explicitly selects or that are strictly required to perform DNSSEC validation:
- The resolver you choose — every DNS query is sent directly from your device to the resolver you picked in the Nameserver field (public resolver, your own server, or your system resolver). UDP, TCP, DNS-over-TLS, DNS-over-HTTPS, or DNS-over-QUIC depending on your selection.
- IANA root nameservers — during DNSSEC validation, DnsQuery fetches the root DNSKEY set directly from one of the hardcoded root-hints IPs (e.g.
198.41.0.4) in order to anchor the chain of trust to the IANA trust anchors. This is a single query per validation.
All connections are made directly from your device to those servers. No data passes through our infrastructure — we operate no servers that your app communicates with.
Local Data Storage
DnsQuery keeps two small pieces of data on your device: your most recent queries (up to 15, including the query, the response bytes, and whether it succeeded) and any custom resolver presets you have saved. If you are signed into iCloud, this data is stored in your own private iCloud Key-Value container so it is available across your Mac, iPhone, and iPad. It never leaves your Apple ID account and we have no access to it.
Support Communications
If you contact us for support at support@dnsedit.au, any information you choose to include in your message is used solely to respond to your enquiry. We do not add support contacts to marketing lists or share contact information with third parties.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of DnsQuery after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
